Safeguard Expands In Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe, MN - January 18, 2005

Safeguard Security and Communications, a leader in commercial, residential and institutional security and monitoring services, acquired the alarm division of Santa Fe, N.M. based Akal Security. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The purchase of Akal’s alarm division adds more than 200 commercial clients to Safeguard’s Santa Fe portfolio, making Safeguard the second-largest security company in the area.

“Acquiring Akal’s alarm division was strategically valuable to Safeguard in terms of increasing market share,” said Safeguard Chief Executive Officer John Jennings. “It expands our presence in the commercial market, while strengthening our overall position in the Santa Fe area.”

Safeguard began operating in Santa Fe in 2001, concentrating primarily on home security. Prior to the Akal acquisition, roughly 90 percent of Safeguard’s installations in the Santa Fe market were residential.
